Death Valley Christmas 2007
submitted by Brent

Schimkes at Artist Drive- Artist Palette
Hottest, Driest, Lowest: A superlative desert of streaming dunes, snow-capped mountains, multicolored rock layers, water-fluted canyons and three million acres of wilderness. Home to plants and animals unique to the harshest deserts. A place of legend and a place of trial. A place the Schimkes went for Christmas! Death Valley. Furnace Creek Inn is the "jewel of Death Valley" nestled against the Funeral Mountains and overlooking the desert salt pans and majestic Panamint Mountains. This was our home base for four days.
Tips and Advice:
- Traveling in the winter wasn't a bad idea--no crowds whatsoever.
- Don't arrive at night. It is pitch black.
- Budget more time that you expect to get there (or back from there).
