Group Golf Vacation Considerations
an excerpt from Leisure Group Travel magazine, May 2005
1. Golf groups normally start with four golf buddies and then grow, adding other golfers and non-playing spouses and friends. Remember that when reserving tee times, most courses encourage parties to play in groups of four.
2. Most golf vacations range from two to three-day getaways to week long trips. The longer the trip the more diverse activities need to be planned, but golf should always be the main focus.
3. Know your golfers' abilities and the type of course they are accustomed to playing. When selecting courses, try to match the player with the course so that they aren't over or under challenged.
4. Golfers long to experience playing the top courses on the pro tournament circuit. If your group is at one of these destinations, and they want to play it, be sure and make the arrangements.
5. After a round of golf, most players like to have a lunch or a refreshment break at the course clubhouse. Schedule enough time for a visit to the pro shop. Course logo items are always popular and pro shops are known to not only carry the latest golf equipment and attire, they also frequently have great sales.
6. After a round of golf and other leisure activities, golfers like to get together as a group for a nice dinner. Be aware of early tee-off times when scheduling dinner.
7. Recreational golfers are not accustomed to playing 18 holes day after day. Consider doing alternative activities on some days of the trip. This might include a lesson with a local golf pro or being a spectator at an area's professional or celebrity golf tour tournaments. Women may also enjoy a spa day or time for shopping and men often like a day of sport fishing, going to a baseball game or time at a casino.
