We had spent a lot of time going back and forth about what to do for a MAJOR birthday for one of my closest friends. How were we going to make this the birthday party to remember? Rent a hall, hire a band? Invite just a few people and go to Hawaii?
Then, with his birthday only seven weeks away, we made a group decision to get our nearest and dearest friends and family to drive an hour’s north to the Carneros Inn in Napa, CA. Now normally, I don’t think most of us could have afforded this type of luxury getaway, but this was a very special event. I should also mention that we have a friend who has a friend who was able to get us a fantastic group discount rate during a slower part of their season in early November.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon to begin the festivities. First of all, the level of service and attention to detail makes you feel relaxed even before arriving at the front gate and seeing their beautiful outside lounge area. We worked with the staff at Farm, their locally supplied restaurant, and got a great pre-fixed menu for the group that even took into account vegetarian diets. We booked family suites with adjoining deck areas where we could all sit together and enjoy wine and stories under heat lamps and the Napa sky – the weather cooperated most of the night.
The best way to describe these “cabins” is like very well-appointed tent cabins - lots of luxury with a touch of rustic living. They are fantastic. They are very charming and unique with super comfortable beds, heated bathroom tiles, and indoor and out door showers along with a fireplace.
In addition to taking side trips for wine tasting, farmer’s markets, and shopping at the Napa Valley Premium Outlets, top quality group time was spent together at the hilltop pool and spa area. Here a large hot tub overlooks the vineyards and rolling hills of the Carneros valley – we hung out there for hours, swimming in the affinity lap pool, ordering drinks, and then using the dry and wet sauna in the locker room.
This was a great way to relax and celebrating together, far away from the rigors of the work week. In fact, now when I get too stressed out at work, I try to think back on lounging by that infinity pool, and I am instantly relaxed. I guess you could say that the Carneros Inn has become “my happy place.” Oh, I’d love to give you the name of the contact at arranged the deal for us, but some things need to be kept within your group.
